Impressive mygalomorph from Spain => cf. Amblyocarenum walckenaeri

Hello,

Acquaintances of mine found this 5-legged beast near Alicante, Spain. The length including legs was 4-5 cm. It has been spotted repeatedly near a house. Apparently, spiders of the same species were also seen on olive trees in the neighborhood.
Any ideas?

Hi Frits,

in southern Spain Macrothele calpeiana would be a valid option, but there seems to be no evidence of the long spinnerets. Since that specimen seems to be a rather "battle-worn" male, it either keeps them (very) close to the body, lost them, or they are just not there. The picture is also pretty bad, so that it is somewhat inconclusive.

Hello Frits,

if I didn´t overlook any important information in the WIKI, then it should be Ischnocolus valentinus, the only Theraphosidae occuring in Spain. As there are no visible spinnerets, I would exclude Macrothele calpeiana, the other Mygalomorph species in Spain.

Thanks for reminding me Uli, I completely forgot about my older post :-)

I guess this should be the same species, I do have another picture (which is of even worse quality), which also shows no spinnerets.
