Beitrag von: Raffaele Falato am 2020-06-25 12:14:19
Gorgoglione, Province of Matera, Basilicata, southern Italy.

Discovery date: 6 May, 12:00 noon.
Habitat: 700 m - on the wall of a room in an abandoned building, in an oak wood.

Hi everyone,
is this spider a  sub-adult male of Evarcha jucunda, or am I wrong?
Thank you.

Good evening.
I took a look at the photos of subadult male on the wiki and I don't find any similarity.
For example, my spider should already have dark legs and a less "drawn" opistosome, all of which are missing.
At this point I seriously think I have made a wrong assessment and photographed a female, perhaps sub-adult.
What leaves me perplexed, however, are the palps, which seem slightly enlarged and which determined my original idea.
Mah.
I do not know.
Yet I have photographed many specimens of jucunda, but this one creates problems for me.

I only can say it is an Evarcha. Try to find an adult male  :P

Ciao Tobias,
I am surprised by your answer. You even question the species, jucunda.
What leaves you perplexed?
It seems to me that the drawings on the whole body push unequivocally towards jucunda, the other 4 Italian species have different patterns (before posting, I always check the wiki and araneae.ch gallery).
And in fact my question was addressed to identify only the sex and age of the spider, because of the palps for me (which I do not have the experience of all of you) a little strange.
You blew me away as a goalkeeper on a penalty kick, although, please don't be offended, I remain convinced of my identification.
Now my curiosity increases.

I just said I can only say it is Evarcha. I don't have much experience with the genus, but with the little I have seen the variability seems to be very large, but I think a cf. is ok. Somebody here can probably say if other species are candidates or not.

Well Tobias,
now we are closer.  ;)
And what do you think about palps?

Für mich ein subadultes Männchen. Hinsichtlich der Musterung gebe ich Tobias recht. Die sind ziemlich variabel. Für Deine Gegend scheint mir aber E. jucunda auch am wahrscheinlichsten - mit "cf"  ;)
