Autor Thema: Shiny Argiope from Madeira, is it A. trifasciata? <=  (Gelesen 234 mal)

This spider was sparkling like silver. I found it in a garden in Madeira last week, KL ~ 6 mm. Two Argiope species occur in Madeira: A. bruennichi and A. trifasciata. I am tempted to go for trifasciata, but it does not completely agree with the photos of the species I can find on the internet...

The annulated femora and the dense stripes on the abdomen favour trifasciata though

You must be right. I did not know the species had different colouring of the femora, but that seems to be an excellent way of distinguishing the two species.
