Linyphiidae under the wood => ...phantes indet.
« am: 2020-03-14 12:35:52 »
Gorgoglione, Province of Matera, Basilicata, southern Italy.

Discovery date: March 5, 10am.
Habitat: 700 m - in an oak forest, on the ground under a wooden plank adjacent to the wall of an abandoned building.
Dimensions: see photo #3.

Good morning.
Is it possible to determine this female Linyphiidae?
It is the first specimen of XXXphantes that I find so large.
Thank you.
Raf

Well, then it must be Megalepthyphantes :P

Hi Rainer.
Due to the emoticon you used I can't understand if your answer is just witty or if it contains the identification of my spider.
But even if it were just a joke, it really made me laugh, and in Italy these days we really need to laugh.
Let me know.

Nono, Rainer seems to be serious. Even if I thought Lepthyphantes leprosus/minutus in the first moment. A good photo of the side showing the epigyne will be always helpful. Please, take a look here

Thank you guys.
If the identification of Rainer (Megaleptyphantes) is confirmed, my discovery becomes really interesting for the Italian arachnofauna. In fact, of the two species present in Italy, collinus and nebulosus, the second was found only in the north while the first also in the north with only one review dated 2007 in the south (in Campania, my region, which borders on Basilicata).
For my spider I would propose Megalepthyphantes cfr. collinus.

@Simeon.
You're right about the importance of the photos of the ventral section, this time I haven't thought about it  :-\.
As for the research that interests you and Mr. Dimitrov, the Alpine region is very far from where I live, sorry but I don't think I can help you. You could however try to contact the Staff of Aracnofilia.org (one of the 2 main Italian sites, on which I place photos of many of my finds), some components come from Trieste and Udine.
Greetings from Italy.

Well Raffaele, any specimen from the collinus complex will be of interest, including from South Italy if present. The longiapophysate form is just a priority, not an exclusive target. Also, thanks for the recommendation!

Hi Raf,
My suggestion was only half-serious – just something to have a look at, considering the name. Wouldn’t it be even more funny if it turns out this is actually Lepthyphantes minutus;)
Best wishes,
Rainer

 ;D ;D ;D
Bravo my Rainer, you made me spend the evening making me a culture on Megalepthyphantes (you saw that post of kilometers above!). You are lucky that in Italy we cannot leave the house, otherwise ...  >:(

Seriously, are we now Lepthyphantes minutus (I don't see the whitish spots on the abdomen, though)?
Because in this case we play on nomen species;)
A greeting.

It's just very difficult/impossible to determine Linyphiinae based on pictures.

Thanks anyway guys.
The subfamily Linyphiinae is sufficient.
I always have Martin's suggestion in mind regarding Linyphiidae identification requests, but in this case I thought that the size of the spider and the quality of the photos could help you experts to get at least to the genus.
Greetings from Italy.

Guys, are you sure that the subfamily is Linyphiinae and not Micronetinae?
Or did Tobias mean Linyphiidae (family)?
