Little dark Salticidae => Philaeus chrysops
« am: 2020-11-12 19:27:25 »
Gorgoglione, Province of Matera, Basilicata, Southern Italy.

Date of discovery: November 11, morning, sunny day.
Habitat: 800 m - in the countryside, on the edge of a drinking trough.
Dimensions: about 3 mm or a little more.

Ciao,
this little Salticidae reminds me of a young Philaeus chrysops, but it has colors that I have never seen on this species.
Yet another youth dress?
Thanks.
Raf

I think Philaeus chrysops is at least possible but I myself have no experience with such young stages.

I would also say it's a juvenile Philaeus chrysops. Reddish/orange color around the eyes and dark rectangular spots on the prosoma could hint to this species. The extremely long, white and converging hairs below the median front eyes are also a good indicator I would say.

Hi Benjamin,

ok, I change it to cf. Philaeus chrysops.

Ciao Benjamin,
thanks for your intervention.  :D

Now this little spider dressed and made up like Nina Hagen has a (almost) name.
I have no more spiders to identify (I am waiting for spring and the covid vaccine), so I am happy to update my research database.

Greetings from southern Italy.
