N. subfusca or N. crucifera ? => N. cf. subfusca
« am: 2021-01-17 07:17:32 »
This Neoscona sp. I found in Tenerife. The 2 species, N. subfusca and N. crucifera are very similar.
I don't know if it's possible to distinguish them with these photos.
Any help is welcome.

Best regards

This is really difficult. The specimen seems to be subadult. However, the bulky shoulders and the folium without a "cross"-pattern point more in the direction of subfusca. However, I've only seen both in small numbers, but it appears to me that C. crucifera has a more "rugby"-like shape of the abdomen in general.

The specimen is indeed a subadult.
With the bulky shoulders, my preference also went to N. subfusca.

Maybe best Neoscona cf. subfusca.

Thank you for your answer Tobias
