Philodromus? => Tmarus sp.
« am: 2020-12-11 20:02:22 »
Gorgoglione, Province of Matera, Basilicata, Southern Italy.

Discovery date: November 27, 1 pm.
Habitat: 700 m - in an oak forest, on the outer wall of an abandoned bungalow.
Size: about 4mm.

Good evening,
what did I photograph here, a young male specimen of Philodromus (but, if so, I don't know which species) or something else?
Thanks.
Raf

Suddenly the light bulb went on: adult male of Tmarus stellio?
The place of discovery is however humid and there are no trees in the immediate vicinity.

This is much closer - a subadult male Tmarus is correct and stellio is possible (but maybe so is piger). This species is not invariably connected to humid areas though, at least not where I live. But it can be. It is however mostly connected to trees.

Sorry Simeon, which species are you referring to?
I can not understand.

In any case, I archive the spider as cf. stellio or is Tmarus sp. more prudent?
Thanks.

My explanation is refering to stellio - the only Tmarus species that I know so far.

I would stay at Tmarus sp.

I'm taxonomically interested in Tmarus. If you have a future specimens for which you want a proper ID, you can, if you like, send me the specimen(s). I can try also to raise juvenile specimens, but it is not that easy.

Ciao Tobias,
we have to postpone everything to next year, my time here in Basilicata is about to expire, in a few days I will return to my Sannio before it is no longer possible. The Italian government intends to adopt severe measures for the Christmas holidays, unfortunately in Italy people continue to die of covid-19 as if we were at war.  :-\  :'(

Everyone of you stay healthy.
