Steatoda Triangulosa? <=

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe hier mal wieder ein Exemplar zur bestimmung.

Bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass es sich um Steatoda Triangulosa handelt, aufgrund der markanten Zeichnung auf dem Opisthosoma.

Ca. 3 mm groß, gefunden in Bochum, innerhalb der Wohnung.

Ich würde jetzt auch mal vermuten, dass es ein weibliches Tier ist.

Seid ihr damit soweit einverstanden?

She's now sitting in a terrarium. We will see if she still grows up.

my guess is that she is already adult, but just very hungry or thirsty

It can certainly be as you say, Jonathan.

My doubt derives from the fact that here I always have about ten specimens free for the house (they are excellent natural insecticides, for me second only to Menemerus semilimbatus in the house) and this allowed me to measure and photograph them in the various stages of their growth.
In Basilicata the specimens of triangulosa about 3mm long are at most sub-adults.

Perhaps in central Europe the species is smaller.

That's certainly possible and would be worth an investigation. I can remember seeing and collecting female Steatoda triangulosa and Parasteatoda lunata in Istria, Croatia, and wondering how extraordinarily large they were compared to the ones I know from here.

What are the reasons for that shift?

Also Mangophora acalypha gets bigger in the mediterrean region than here. And climatic reasons we can exclude for a house spider like Steatoda triangulosa, or?

Steatoda triangulosa is not a typical house spider in Croatia. You can find it around the house and in other habitats as well.

A more diverse diet or the selection for larger specimens might be a reason. But this is pure speculation.
